Voting —
I just did my early voting this morning. You'd think, with it being the last day for early voting, there'd be long lines. But no, I was pretty much alone in there. Me and a room full of elderly volunteers. It took no time at all.

I was given a huge paper ballot, which is nice. No touch-screen, that's good. But at the end, I fed my ballot into a machine, and the old lady told me to watch the number on the screen tick up by one. "There! You voted!" she said. "You saw it happen!" Really? What did I see? (And as I left, the old guy at the exit door was telling his fellow volunteers how you can't trust these young people with backpacks 'cause they all have bombs. [I did NOT have a backpack, btw.])

I absolutely understand why so many people don't vote. All the candidates are dicks and idiots, IF you even know who they are. I'm always stuck voting for the guy who's NOT a Republican and NOT a teabag independent... which pretty much means Democrat. *sigh*

I find it alarming how so many otherwise liberal people want to pass laws making non-voting illegal. Do they REALLY think that will solve the problem? That's how conservatives think. You don't like what other people are doing? Pass a law! MAKE them do it YOUR way! (It's interesting the number and variety of nations that have mandatory voting. They're not better for it.)

There are so many bad laws that create more problems than they solve. The whole drug war thing is the perfect example. When these laws are passed, there is NO thought given to how they will be enforced, who will enforce them and what the fallout will be. Seriously, how would you propose we punish non-voters? Fines? Loss of rights? Prison?

If you're one of those who want to make voting mandatory, be honest with yourself: the reason you're unhappy is because your favorite candidates aren't getting elected. Do you REALLY believe that MAKING people vote will magically drive your fellow liberals out of the woodwork? DO YOU REALLY THINK THAT??

Forced voting might increase the numbers, but it won't change the percentages at all. And it certainly won't make people vote smarter. The average person votes with his/her butthole, not his/her brain. NOTHING will change that.

The fact is, we're already paying the price for not voting. We're getting what we deserve. If anything should be done at all, I'd say make the consequences more immediate. When a majority doesn't vote, eliminate that office until the next vote. People don't cast a vote for president, there IS no president until the people decide there needs to be. You don't WANT government, you GET no government. Make the non-votes count.

In Tampa —
Back in Tampa, FINALLY. I'm in a really awesome temporary hotel where I can work. I'll be able to get my big monitor tomorrow. No live art tonight, but I'll post a work-in-progress preview a bit later. Oh! And I'll be able to see Venture Brothers "LIVE!"

Making progress --
Got my deposit back, and I'm heading back to Tampa. I spent so much time and money this year trying to get AWAY from Tampa, and now here I am thinking of it as "home." So tired and beat down right now...

Last week's commission list is SOLD OUT! Yay! No new list this week. My backlog is SO long! I'll wait till next Tuesday to start a new one.

I'll get some ART done tonight, too! Definitely! My speed and accuracy may take some time to recover, though. We'll see.

A decent hotel --
I hadn't planned on doing this, but I need to. I'm doing well as far as travel back to Tampa and replacing my stolen equipment. Where I am NOT so good is temporary lodging. The place I've been staying for the last few days is just... NOT acceptable. There's a better place nearby (with wifi!), that will cost $350 for the next 5 nights, until I fly to Tampa on the 16th. Spent several hours tonight creating inventory lists of my stolen stuff. I have receipts, photos...

*sigh* It will all mean nothing.

The last few days have been... DIFFICULT. I won't be able to get out of here until the 16th, so the next two weeks will CONTINUE to be difficult. I have the police and the hateful apartment people to deal with. I have no hope of getting any of my things back. It would be stupid to think otherwise.

I AM able to draw, and I NEED to! They didn't take my big monitor, which will make things easier. I've gotten SO far behind! And to think... this week was supposed to be a relaxing, getting-caught-up week.

I will keep the current weekly deal open until it sells out, and instead of taking a week off from new commissions (which I badly need), I will repeat the popular 3-for-2 deal from last month. Look for it tomorrow!

Not much new to report. I will try to start addressing messages and orders tomorrow. I will also be presenting police with an inventory. Thanks to the internet and email records, I have photos and receipts.

Pretty much ALL of my DVDs are gone: Xanadu, Forbidden Planet, Metropolis, Sita Sings the Blues, my giant COMPLETE collection of bootleg MST3K, and just tons of other stuff. They took the DVD binders, but not the box sets, so I still have my Carl Sagan's Cosmos and original Land of the Lost. I've been watching my first season set of News Radio, which has been making me laugh. They didn't take my music CDs, either, so Pink Floyd is still with me.

And they didn't want any books. Charles Darwin and Herman Melville too highbrow for ya, fellas?

A robbery happened weeks ago. Nobody made any attempt to contact me. I called the police. The property owner, manager and realtor were very hateful. All they could talk about was how inconvenient it was for THEM. I did not stay at the new apartment. I went to a hotel with what was left of my stuff. At the moment, I'm homeless, but I AM getting my deposit back. For now, it looks like it's back to Tampa.

Some of you have sent gifts, and I am very grateful. It's not necessary, but it does help, and it does make me feel loved.

Internet Disruption --
Okay, here's how the next few days are gonna go. Before I came to Tampa a month ago, I made a deposit on a new apartment and moved my stuff in. (The owners were kind enough to offer to store my stuff until I got back. SO much nicer than the crazy former landlady!) So my stuff is already moved, I just need to unbox everything. (It's like an "instant move!" Awesome!) Then tomorrow, my internet is scheduled to be installed. I anticipate, however, it will probably be Monday or Tuesday. Whatever the case, internet access will be rough for a while. I may not be streaming live art for a few days, but I WILL be drawing, and I WILL email people's stuff to them! Stay tuned!

It's been a nice month's vacation in Tampa! I didn't do as much socializing as I'd hoped, but I DID gain 5 pounds! Yay! >:(
