Irma and Action Man —
Here's a first-draft sketch for a new commission. Yes, that is THE Action Man! The toy! And that's the same Irma who appeared in a Ghostbusters commission a while back. The final version will be quite a bit different, but this is just too funny to go unseen!

It's inspired by a DragonMoonX drawing supplied by the customer.

CONTEST! —
I started this Big Girl commission drawing, but I'm drawing a blank (pun NOT intended) about finishing it...

You guys tell me! Leave your answers in the comments! I'll know the winning suggestions when I see them! You'll get a credit on the finished art and a super-large copy!

UPDATE: One of the suggestions here gave me a good idea, so I'll use it. A variation on it, anyway. There were also some other suggestions on my FurAffinity blog if you want to see those. Only one person suggested that she had stepped on something, which is what I was thinking myself, but I never came up with anything specific. Keep suggesting if you like!

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland —
I deliberately avoided this movie when it first came out because I can't stand Tim Burton's films, and I'm seriously bored with this whole "dark bad-ass update of a fairytale" idea. No, really, I'm sick of it. It's old. It doesn't work.

But then I read that this was Burton's highest-grossing film AND the highest-grossing of 2010 so far. Really? REALLY?? Okay, so I had to see WHY. And I wasn't at all surprised. It's just another bad, aimless Tim Burton film. WHY do people like this shit? WHY does Burton have a reputation as a great director?? The last Burton film I enjoyed was Beetlejuice, for Christ sake. (No, wait, I liked Ed Wood.) And I think, hands down, his BEST film is Pee-Wee's Big Adventure. Yeah, that's right, his FIRST! It's been downhill for me ever since.

There are a lot of problems with re-writing or updating children's stories, and Alice is the WORST choice. The Alice stories have NO plot, NO moral, NO conflict resolution and NO character development. Anyone who wants to update or adapt them has to INVENT it all, and it fails every time. The idea that the Cheshire Cat or the Mad Hatter would ally themselves to a cause or share ANY motivations with ANYONE for ANY reason is enough to shout "FAIL!" Every character in Alice exists only as a pun or just to look silly. They are one-dimensional. They are JOKES. Burton fails to make them sympathetic, just like everybody fails when they try it.

And Burton does one thing in particular that really peeves me. Listen, Tim... (deep breath) ...the Queen of Hearts and the Red Queen ARE NOT THE SAME CHARACTER!!!!!!!! They don't even appear in the SAME BOOK! JEEZ!!!

...and then there's all the typical Burton complaints: too much CGI, no color, unlikeable characters, over-done music, wasted talent, poor ending and (all together now) HELENA BONHAM CARTER!!!!

It's Draw Muhammad Day!!!
I wasn't going to take valuable time to make a new drawing for this, but I just couldn't stop myself! And my little sketch turned out pretty awesome, I think! It's Muhammad!!! Doing what religious leaders do best!!! SLAUGHTERING WOMEN!!! Yay!!!

My original idea was to draw him raping a little boy (that's the OTHER thing religious leaders do, right?), but I didn't have the stomach for that.

I also want to share my disgust at the failure of Molly Norris to support what she unwittingly started. I understand that she only drew a one-panel comic, that she did not start an organized protest, and I don't blame her for being taken aback at the response. I DO blame her for denouncing this great idea. I mean, she's APOLOGIZING to Muslims!!! And Jon Wellington is even worse. What a couple of PUSSIES!

And now, here's another GENIUS animated cartoon from Mark Fiore! CLICK IT!

To all you idiots who might want to complain: DON'T.
If you can't see the difference between the ORGANIZED MURDER of artists and the protest AGAINST it, you're an asshole.

UPDATES: An excellent wrap-up at Reason.com
And then... *sigh* look at these lunatics.

'Iron Man 2' was GREAT! —
I normally don't like movies, especially comic book movies*, and most especially comic book movie SEQUELS. But this was a good movie! I'd read some lukewarm reviews and my friends told me it was badly written, and that's exactly what I expected, so I wasn't enthusiastic about seeing it. IM1 was great, and when they make a good movie, they pretty much always ruin the sequel, right? Not this time! This was a really good movie!

I thought it was quite well-written, too! What's everybody talking about?? The interaction between Tony Stark and Pepper Potts was tremendous! And the way Favreau (the director / Happy Hogan) had the conversations banging away a mile-a-minute, lines falling on top of one another, multiple conversations happening at once... I found it thrilling! Like live theater!

I don't know why people thought the plot was thin, either. The history of Iron Man / Tony Stark is all about his struggle to control his technology AND his addictions. Both of these movies have covered the subject well. What's the problem??

I liked it!

* Let me explain. I grew up reading comics, so I care about them. I would LOVE it if comic book movies were good, but they almost never are. That's why I don't like them. I'd LIKE to like them, but I can't.

Ultra Fem series CANCELED —
For eight or nine months now, I've been selling episode 1 of the new Ultra Fem series, and basically nobody is buying it. Only a handful of copies have been sold. The total sales equal less than 25% of what I make every week selling commissions, which take up 100% of my time. I can't justify taking time to work on the comic. I don't even WANT to work on it anymore.

So it's canceled.

Buyers can either get a refund or a credit toward a commission.

Look out! It's ULTRA FEM!!!
I was not planning on making any new Ultra Fem art this week, much less a wallpaper. But while I was researching some Savage Dragon covers for a commission, I felt the inspiration come upon me! Those of you who follow Savage Dragon will no doubt see Erik Larsen all over this drawing!

I love the extreme perspective of Erik Larsen's work. Right out of 'Comics the Marvel Way!' I often think, though, that his work looks rushed, sometimes downright sloppy. I try to work fast, but I also try to make everything polished.

So here ya go! An unexpected wallpaper for May!

The Abominable Charles Christopher —
Today I discovered an AMAZING web comic called 'The Abominable Charles Christopher,' which is honestly... indescribable. I've never seen anything quite like it. Although, as I read through it, I was often reminded of Bill Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes. It has both the artistic and philosophical depth of Watterson's work, with the occasional laugh-out-loud joke and the dead-on capture of nature and animals. Just wonderful stuff! JOY for an artist!

I recommend that you start at the beginning. HERE it is!

Scarlet Starlet and Sapphire Blade —
Here's a new commission that ended up being quite epic! It's Scarlet Starlet and Sapphire Blade, a couple of RPG characters from a customer of mine. This took a lot longer than my usual weekly color commissions. I think it's because of the costumes. I usually draw naked people fucking. Clothes slow things down!

Anyway, the two started out as separate drawings, and it shows. They clearly don't belong in the same picture. Their perspectives are VERY different. I never figured out how to make them fit together properly, so I just slapped them down on the same page. They look kind'a like Power Man and Iron Fist, don't they??

Interesting notes: Starlet was inspired by an old drawing of "Blazer" from the 1980s "Justice Machine." (Remember them? No??) Blade was inspired by The Flash, of all things.

Aaaaannd... I just noticed Starlet doesn't have her chest emblem... damn.

Here's the original sketches.

The Most AWESOME Suit in the WORLD!
I hope my customers will forgive me for taking a little time to make this sketch today. I saw this man at the grocery store this afternoon, and I was AWESTRUCK!!! Cream slacks and jacket with lilac shirt and tie, PLUS MATCHING SHOES!!! Not only were the shoes LILAC, check out those crazy CREAM HIGHLIGHTS! And to top it off, he looked like Scatman Crothers Jr! I just had to document this!

I went with the extreme 1970s blaxploitation Bakshi cartoon style because I felt it was appropriate for the theme. Some of you may even recognize which movie I used as inspiration.

Anyway, the poor guy must have been older than he looked because he was having trouble walking. I hope he gets the appreciation that suit deserves!

Giantess mentions! —
I found out that Ultra Fem has been mentioned at a couple of sites: Giantessa and SuperGirlX
Oddly enough, it was Big Girl they were interested in, the least popular of the Ultra Fem Five. Nobody has ever requested a Big Girl commission. Even The Scratch and the Martian Manhater have been requested. Other artists have even chosen, without my asking, to draw them! But never poor Big Girl...  :(

Meanwhile here's a crazy video. Fast Forward to 3:15 to see why I put it here.

'Stygi' in progress —
Here's a piece I'm working on right now. It's the same "she-devil" I drew on April 27. When the customer came back and wanted a full-color drawing, I couldn't help but think, "She-Devil with a SWORD?"

So it's become a tribute to Frank Thorne! I LOVE doing Frank Thorne! His art was always so sensual!
This will be completed tonight. It will my 11th drawing this week!

UPDATE: The finished art is HERE! It ended up looking like a black-light poster! Very retro!
